Artist Residency – Anatomy and Dynamics of a Territory[EN]
In the Boite Valley, reshaped to meet the needs of the Cortina Winter Olympics, the SS51 Alemagna—symbol of efficiency and speed—is the main road for goods and tourism. Designed so that every element serves a function, with its gentle layout and evenly distributed slopes, it conveys the idea of mountain travel as more accessible and faster.
From this main artery, a perpetual construction site in constant transformation, another road unfolds: the SP347, the Cibiana Pass road. This secondary route stands as the visual and material counterpoint to the Alemagna, revealing a harsher, more impervious landscape.
The contrast between these two roads reflects a deeper fracture—between what the territory is and what it wants to appear to be. While the SP347 remains almost unchanged, carved into the landscape like a stubborn, resilient path crossing small villages where time still seems to follow natural rhythms, the Alemagna has become a permanent construction site, continually reshaped to serve the demands of the upcoming Cortina Winter Olympics.
From the perspective of a journey, the photographic work seeks to represent this opposition, focusing on the secondary road—the lifeline of villages scattered between mountain passes and narrow one-lane roads—where people inhabit the landscape, telling of a life more rooted and less superfluous. A path made of encounters and pauses, where the landscape is not merely a backdrop but an active, living, and often hostile presence

Nella Valle del Boite, rimodellata per le esigenze delle Olimpiadi invernali di Cortina, la SS51 Alemagna, simbolo di efficenza e velocità è la strada di collegamento per le merci e il turismo, ideata per essere in ogni suo elemento funzionale con il suo tracciato dolce, con pendenze ben distribuite, rende l’idea di uno spostamento in montagna più accessibile e veloce.
Da questa arteria principale, cantiere in continuo mutamento, si delinea un’altra strada, la SP347, strada del passo Cibiana, via secondaria che è la contrapposizione visiva e reale di un paesaggio impervio rispetto alla Alemagna.
Nel contrasto tra queste due strade si riflette una frattura più ampia, quella tra ciò che il territorio è e ciò che vuole che appaia. Mentre la SP347 rimane quasi immutata, scolpita nel paesaggio come un sentiero ostinato e resistente che attraversa piccoli nuclei abitati dove il tempo sembra appartenere ancora ai ritmi naturali; la Alemagna è ad oggi un cantiere permanente, rimodellata per le esigenze in via delle olimpiadi invernali di Cortina.
In una visione di viaggio, il lavoro fotografico vuole rappresentare questa contrapposizione, soffermandosi su questa via secondaria, fulcro di paesini dislocati tra passi di montagna e strade strette a una corsia dove le persone che vivono il paesaggio raccontando una vita più radicata e meno superflua, un percorso fatto da incontri e attese, dove il paesaggio non è solo sfondo ma presenza attiva, viva e spesso ostile.
